This is not the first podcast episode I ever recorded, but it sure sounds like it. Please excuse the poor editing and the stumbling over words and listen to the heart behind it.

Long story short, I started the podcast Faith and Feminism because after years of work with sexually exploited and marginalized women I realized that when you got to the root of it, the oppression of women was due to one thing: inequality.

The simple fact of the matter is that you don’t buy women unless you view them as an object, you don’t rape someone unless you think their consent doesn’t matter, you don’t exploit them unless you view them as less than— and after years of working with sexually exploited women I’ve decided to fight inequality, to get to the root of the issue that affects women in every country of this Earth.

The sexual harassment, cat-calls, sexual assault and glass-ceilings women face in the US have the same root for women overseas being bought and sold, beaten within an inch of their lives, and FGM that happens globally.

I’m fighting for equality because we can’t help women over there until we change the way we treat women over here.
